A. Chris comes to us from Miami, Florida with over 20 years of professional experience as a director, actor, educator, producer, designer, and playwright. With over 200 productions behind him, and nearly 100 as a director, he has received several awards for his theatrical artistry, including international nominations for his roles as an actor. Prior to his work as a teacher and college professor, he had the privilege of studying Theatre Education under Tony Award winning educator Jason Zembuch who taught him the value of collaboration and inclusion. As a theatre educator since 2003, he has measured success primarily through the lives he has helped to transform. More than any award, he values the achievements of those who have trained with him. Under his guidance, his students have received hundreds of awards at the regional, state and international levels, many of whom have since made names for themselves as leaders and theatre professionals in the most competitive cities and universities. He has helped them with college and job placement, but has also assisted his students in the creation of numerous theatre companies across the continent. He has a dedicated passion for helping others reach their full potential and building communities through theatre.
A. Chris Barton holds two BA’s in Theatre and in Musical Theatre from his hometown of Miami, as well as an MFA in Theatre from the University of Montana. He would like to thank Bill and Judith for the very strong foundations they have shaped for this theatre over their term as Directors of the Education Department. A. Chris is thrilled to be leading the Midland Community Theatre Education Department into the future and is excited to be working with the new team, implementing new strategies and opportunities.
