Theatre School
Theatre School / Academy Sessions
Theatre School/Academy classes are at the heart of MCT’s Education Department.
This year, MCT Education embraces storytelling as a foundation for lessons in theatre skills, acting and fine arts. Tales from around the world allow us to journey toward our end of the year production in the spring. Theatre School classes consist of 4 sessions throughout the school year. The final session celebrates the year with a production on our main stage. In addition, Fine Arts Academy classes return, providing alternative class days for each grade level and offering opportunities to develop additional fine arts skills more keenly.
Students in K-6th grade can choose either Theatre School or Academy classes. Even better, why not expand involvement to classes twice weekly, focusing one day on acting and one day on other arts endeavors? Whatever you choose, K-6 Grade students in Theatre School and/or Academy can audition for the Spring production that comprises Session IV.
Note, all classes subject to change.

F.A.Q.
WHY THEATRE CLASSES?
Our classes are not just for actors! MCT Theatre School classes are designed to grow skills and experience in the theatre, but the lessons taught are also applicable to a multitude of other necessary skills outside of theatre, such as communication, empathy, confidence, creativity, teamwork and more!
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SESSIONS ONE, TWO, AND THREE?
Sessions One and Two are built to be more skill based classes, building up to that third session. Session Three is a performance based class. The process will be treated like a rehearsal, ending in a final public performance. Sessions One and Two are currently not required to participate in a Session Three, but heavily encouraged.
WILL STUDENTS BE ACTING IN THEIR CLASSES?
Although the main focus of education programs is the creative process, some activities will emphasize acting. Work with character development, improvisation with given circumstances, and monologue and scene work may be included, especially as students get older and/or more comfortable with what theatre is all about. We will also work on practical elements of the rehearsal process, such as blocking and stage movement, especially as we plan for the spring production.
WILL MY CHILD GET TO PERFORM FOR AN AUDIENCE?
Our many education programs are creative drama based, meaning that we focus on the process first. Production is a part of that process and each program we offer approaches performance in different ways. If a class in our 1st or 2nd Session intends to end in a performance, it will be outlined in the course description. If the class is our 3rd session, it is a Performance Session, which will end in a full production with one to two performances.
PARENT OBSERVATION
In general, we do not allow parents to stay during class time. Depending on the program, there may be an in-class parent sharing time for the final class, a formal production, or none at all.
REGISTRATION AND REFUND POLICY
We fill classes on a first come first served basis and they usually fill up rather quickly. A student is considered registered when they have completed the registration form and paid tuition. A spot in class cannot be held without tuition payment. Please note, there are NO REFUNDS. If you have to cancel or change a registration, that tuition paid will become a credit towards a future class.
CLASS SIZES
In general, class sizes have a minimum registration of 10 students, and a maximum ranging from 12 to 30. Our class sizes depend on a number of factors which include (but are not limited to) the age of students, the type of projects for the class, and the number of teachers and/or assistants available.
