What to Expect When Auditioning
Auditions at Midland Community Theatre are designed to be welcoming, supportive, and accessible for performers of all experience levels. Whether this is your first audition or you’ve been on stage before, we want you to feel prepared and comfortable when you arrive.
Before Auditions
Approximately one month prior to auditions, audition materials become available. These typically include:
- Audition sides (selected scenes from the script)
- Music sides if the audition is for a musical
- Access to the full script for anyone who would like to read the entire show
Audition materials are available in advance, and sides and music are also available on the day of auditions for walk-ins.
Audition Sign-Up Form
An online audition form is provided prior to auditions. This form may include questions specific to the production, such as:
- Roles you are interested in
- Relevant experience
- Vocal range (for musicals)
We strongly recommend completing the form ahead of time, as it allows you to select an audition time slot and arrive prepared, knowing when you will be seen.
Walk-ins are welcome; however, auditions are heard first for those who have pre-scheduled time slots. Walk-ins are then seen on a first-come, first-served basis as time allows.
What to Prepare
Audition requirements vary depending on the production and the director. Typically:
- Audition sides are provided
- Music sides are provided for musicals
- Some directors may request a monologue, a short musical selection, or a prepared piece
All preparation requirements will be clearly listed in the audition notice.
Dance & Movement
If a production includes a dance or movement component, it is typically taught in person during auditions. There is generally no choreography to prepare in advance. Please wear comfortable clothing and footwear that allows for easy movement.
Callbacks
Callbacks are determined by the director and may or may not be held.
Not being called back does not mean you will not be cast. In many cases, the director has already seen what they need.
Our Audition Environment
Auditions at Midland Community Theatre are intended to be friendly, respectful, and low-pressure. Our goal is to create a supportive environment where performers can do their best work.
